Planning Enforcement Officer (Compliance)
Grade SH06
We are offering the opportunity for a suitable candidate to join our busy Corporate Enforcement team to support and assist with tasks necessary for the effective delivery of Planning enforcement. You will be involved with drafting formal notices in line with legislation, providing guidance, and speaking clearly and confidently in public meetings. Your proactive approach will ensure compliance with conditions imposed on planning permissions and you will monitor developments to ensure compliance with approvals and any formal notices served. The role will also deal with related enforcement appeals along with a variety of other technical tasks within the Development Management Service.
To successfully contribute to this busy team you will need to work collaboratively with the Council’s Corporate Enforcement Team, in particular with the Senior Planning Officer (Enforcement). You will agree with them the approach needed to cases being investigated; assist in all planning related matters; and prepare enforcement closure reports and letters in a clear writing style, as the need arises.
To be successful you will have a minimum of 2 years planning enforcement experience with a good understanding of planning enforcement legislation and knowledge of the planning application process. You will have highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. You must also have a proactive approach to your work. A knowledge of the Uniform system would be an advantage.
You will need to be able to work on your own initiative with minimal supervision, but also be a great team player. Working with colleagues from across the Council and with partners from a range of external agencies, your role will be to help achieve positive enforcement outcomes through a range of advisory, investigative and enforcement activities.
