Grade: Up to SH06 (Career grade SH4 & SH5 considered)

We are looking for a confident, articulate person who can demonstrate having previously worked at a senior level in Democratic and/or Electoral Services.

Flexibility is the key to this post and you will need to be able to respond to changing priorities. You must be a team player but also be able to manage your own workload. You will be required to work to tight deadlines and we are looking for an effective communicator, both orally and in writing. You will require an understanding of electoral law and knowledge of decision making procedures. You will also possess the discretion demanded in a political environment.

You will work with members and officers at all levels of the organisation, supporting a range of council and committee meetings and working groups, as well as dealing with elections and electoral registration.

Although the hours are 37 per week, these are not 9 to 5 jobs as the post holder will be required to attend regular evening meetings, for which time off in lieu will be given. You will also be expected to work additional hours, possibly including weekends, at peak election times.

You must be proficient in the use of ICT systems. Experience of using Xpress, the Council’s Electoral Management System, and/or Modern.gov, the Committee Management System would be an advantage.

Experience of working in Democratic Services or local government is desirable. Consideration will be given to candidates with transferable skills which meet the person specification to progress on a job career grade.

Benefits include a minimum of 24 days’ annual leave, pension scheme, free parking, flexible working hours and private healthcare (subject to length of service).

This is a Politically Restricted Posts under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (as amended).
